Ghana International School saves Jude Abbey's life with GHC 95,000

The Ghana International School has presented a donation of GH¢ 95,170 to the Children's Heart Foundation in saving the lives of three under privilege children with hole in heart condition.
A cheque presented to Mrs. Jacqui Ahomua-Lindsay of the Children's Heart Foundation was the highest amount raised ever since their partnership with the school.
The children roar in cheer when they heard the amount raise was in excess of over GH¢95,000 to save Jude.
“It touched our heart that we are seeing this kind of generosity from children,” said Mrs. Jacqui Ahomua-Lindsay.
The Junior School of the GIS volunteered to raise fund, initially for an open hear surgery for Jude Abbey but they have raise so much to to save 3 children instead. The Children's Heart Foundation, Ghana would present the cheque to the Korle-bu Tertiary Hospital, Cardiology Unit.
Blessing, a 3 year old girl would also benefit from the excess kindness. She had been diagnosed with a hole in heart condition for over a year now. Her mother, Mrs. Josephine Tang was overjoyed and could not express her feeling.
“I don't have words to express myself, If I want to express my joy, I will just shed tears,” she said with teary eyes and shaking voice pitch while smiling. “It's by a miracle. I never dreamt of this. I feel like the whole world's burden has been lifted off me. At first I felt burdened with worry, I feel lighter now.”
she added that she received the call two days to the donation.
Jude Abbey is four years old whose hole in heart condition has been described as severe. This prevents him from being an ordinary child. According to his dad, Jude had been suffering since birth and has constantly been hospitalized his entire life.
The third child could not be part of the donation since the family had to travel from Wa in the Upper West Region to Accra.
Mrs. Jacqui explained that the children have different levels of complications of the hole in heart conditions.  Hole in heart surgery is a major surgery and it takes time to prepare the children for surgery. In her estimate, it costs between a €6,000 – €8,000 “hence this contribution is substantial.” For each of these children, it would costs €8,000 for treatment an amount Mrs Tang confessed, 'was too huge.'
“This generous contribution was possible through the benevolence of the parents, students and staff. This is part of a bigger picture of what we do here at GIS. These are projects that the children undertake every year as their commitment to the community,” the incoming Principal of GIS, Dr. Mary Ashun, explained.
Earlier in the 2015/2016 Academic year, Jude along with his parents visited the school for a tour where they interacted with staff and students. It was a touching experience which moved the GIS Community to commence preparation towards raising funds to save Jude as part of the school's Social Responsibility Programme, it also gave them a sense of pride knowing that they were giving back to the community.
Over the years, the children of GIS have raised funds to help deprived children from the various Regions in Ghana. Their partnership with Children's Heart Foundation (formerly, Golden Heart) dates back to 2006 and have raised funds for over 10 Ghanaian children with Jude being the most recent.
The Children's Heart Foundation, Ghana, is a non-profit and non-governmental voluntary organization that is devoted to raising funds to assist children with heart conditions through life saving operations. It has for many years aided in changing the lives of many children.
