Thief walks because he was beaten
A suspected thief has all
charges dropped against him by the Agbogba Police because he was assaulted by
residents who apprehended him, a police source disclosed.
The police inspector declines pursuing
the case after it considered the state in which the suspected was. The suspected
man was brought in battered, sustaining a swollen eye and lips.
My police source disclosed
that the inspector was not sure who would foot the suspect’s medical bills. He explained
that that the suspect could not be brought in front of a magistrate in that
condition. He added that, there is the possibility that the suspect counter sue
the victim for assaults.
On Sunday, 8th April
2018, a stranger entered our residence and walked away with an unspecified
amount of cash meant for construction procurement.
An eye witness (the wife of
the victim) said she saw him entered her husband’s car but she though it was
one of the husband’s many apprentice. Not until he was about to disappear out
of sight that the victim, Fo Kwasi, asked him to halt and questioned him.
The victim noted that he had
just received the sum of money from a client he was working construction for
and had just come home to rest. He showed that invoice as prove.
Initially when interrogated,
the suspect has said he stole the money because he was hungry. However, a
search on his person revealed that he had in his procession about GHC 26. He recanted
his statement at the police station where he, the suspect claimed he found the
money on the ground as he was walking by.
The Ghana Police Service has
stepped up the campaign against mob justice ever since the death of Major
