I’M HUNGRY SO I HAVE BEEN THINKING A LOT..
Today’s news was gloomy.
It was about those things that give you the ‘chills’ whenever you hear
about the end of days; Famine in South Sudan and four other countries on
the verge of famine. Worse of all, this famine is a direct result of
war and conflict in those regions. There is slavery and human trafficking still going on (some militants were cruel enough to steal the outboard motor of a migrant boat, sinking a lot of people in the Mediterranean. Then there is the (over 5 year) war
in Syria with no sign of abating; the war that started, on Twitter, as a
joke. The most unfortunate one is the Xenophobic attacks in South
Africa where blacks are attacking fellow black because they are
threatened by them. Then you think about the rhetoric of the US
president and you wonder where the LOVE is?
Have we Christians become so selfish that we have stopped praying for peace in the world instead of our peace of minds? I am guilty of this hence I don’t need to guilt you into it. Our spiritual leaders are preoccupying us with superstitious demonic attacks and prophecies of great riches and wealth of celestial plunder.
We are engaged in this senseless industrialization; trying to be named among the riches people on the planet, all for what? Now I am beginning to sound as a jealous person who hates wealth. Someone once told me that when you stand up for a cause other than yourself; you begin to see the enormous side of you that you have kept limited. Even the heavens will open for you.
When was the last time anybody thought of agriculture as a social means of helping others in need especially in South Sudan. Rather we are caught up in the Rat-race of success and our salaries are just (proverbial) carrots on a stick.
Can we stop relying on aid money? When will Ghana, for instance, have enough agricultural surpluses that it will decide that instead of selling it, they will give it to poor African countries as aid?
When will sovereign African state standup and say, enough blood has been spilt and that any militant group that continues in this warring path, will engage the military wrath of AU forces.
Our leaders keep enjoying the hefty sums of donor support to curb the suffering of their people; IT MAKES NO SENSE! Why will someone be more responsible for your citizens while you sit wallowing in blame games and complaints?
As I said, I was hungry and I decided to think about the world, against all better judgments.
